Fish Fertilizer

IMG_0518.JPG

Did you know that we had planted lettuce, onions, and cabbage. We have been watering them, taking photos of them and, fertilizing them… With fish dung! On Friday, me and 2 other 5th graders in my class had 3 buckets and 2 tubs, that were full of water that had fish poo. Our school has an aquarium and we are able to take to dirty water from it and put it to good use.

First, we filled our buckets with the water. Then we took it to one of the 4 plant beds. After that, we dumped a little water on to the plants. Finally, we lifted the 2 tubs and dumped the rest of the water and the fish poop into the grass. After that we washed our hands. The experience was interesting for me. I had never known that fish poo could work as fertilizer. When I looked online, I found that there are many benefits to using this type of fertilizer. It is:

  • Natural, organic (derived from living cells), and chemical free
  • Fast-acting fertilizer that supplies nutrients quickly
  • Effective for an instant boost at the start of growing season
  • Suitable for a wide variety of vegetables, flowers, trees, and crops
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor use
  • Prevents root burn associated with many chemical fertilizers
  • Stimulates microorganisms in the soil
  • Single fertilization lasts 4-5 months
Below and above, are examples of plants we have been have been fertilizing.

Technology: Our Extra Special

Extra Specials Day

0nce a week, we have a day called extra specials day. Extra specials day is when we go to the tech lab at the end of the day .  I look forward to this time because this is the only day we get to have technology class. I don’t have a computer at home, and I really enjoy using computers, so this is something to look forward to.  In the tech lab we usually start with our typing skills, in fact I'm using those skills right now. Typing is a skill that is important for us to learn so that we can do our school work quicker on a computer and someday we will need it for our job. Then we get to have 20 minutes of free time, we’re allowed to play whatever game we want, I usually play a game called Agar.io. In this game  you’re a blob trying to eat littler blobs in an attempt to get to the highest position.

Other classes have extra specials also, but they go to different specials.  0n the day of extra specials we still have our normal specials, so we get to have two specials in one day. Also, we get to have read aloud earlier and longer, which is another favorite of mine.

Tinkering and Capsela

Capsela: By Cole

When you were a kid, did you ever build a working motorized vehicle in class? Chances are, you haven’t. But if you were a student at our classroom, then you would be able to use Capsela to build anything from a crane to a tank! What is Capsela, you ask? Capsela consists of a wide array of parts such as tubes, wiring, a motor, chains, and wheels. Currently Cole (me), Andrew, and Sophie are working on a motorized boat with a large propeller in the back and two floatation devices on either side.

Dec 3, 2015 8:41:12 AM.jpg You may be thinking, “You know, this sounds fun and all, but where is the real educational value in this?” Well, Capsela helps improve vital skills such as creative thinking, engineering, and technology skills. Capsela is currently what is at the ‘Tinker Table’ which consists of creative sets that can be used to build robotic devices. Thank you for reading this blog post by yours truly, Cole!

Learning through Simulation

We learned about pilgrims in our class. We learned about them in a simulation. My favorite part in the simulation was sailing across the ocean. I liked it because we had to answer questions about what we just learned. I also, did not like it because we had to stand with our table group in a little square on the floor. Our table has eight people! As Pilgrims, our trip didn't go so well. Two people fell overboard. Those two people were Ann clarke, and Braden clarke.

Some other hardships we had are storms. Across the great ocean we encountered many severe storms. We broke our mast and the strongest men went to fix it. It took time and energy. Also the big storms pushed us back. Those are some of the hardships the pilgrims had were not good for the pilgrimes like hunger, and lack of sleep. The pilgrims were also bored.

The pilgrims brought no water on there trip. They only brought beer. Even kids drank it! Yuck! They brought ingredients for porridge. They also brought seasonings and spices to use in food and to trade with the Indians.

The children played games like throwing a metal ring  around bottles. There sleeping arrangements were horrible! They slept with three or more people in a small bed. Many people got sick on the  Mayflower. They had severe sickness like high fever or little sickness like sea sickness. It was dreadful on the Mayflower.

We learned about the pilgrims because we wanted to learn about history. Pilgrims set a big place in history because they were the first Englishmen to come to America. Also, because we learned how they set up a colony, traded with the Indians, make peace with the Indians and make that dreadful journey.

Silent Reading

In my class we have silent reading (or independent reading). In silent reading we can read a book of our choice, such as classics, biographies, or other types of books. We can either bring a book from home, or we can get a book from our teacher’s library. The library is an area in the classroom where we can borrow books. There is a very wide variety of books we can borrow and what's more we can even bring one of the books home for reading. Our whole class looks forward to this time each day.

We can also do silent reading to fill in our reading log minutes. For our reading log we have to read 300 minutes a week. You should also read at home if you want to reach your goal of 300 minutes. Our teacher says it is good to read and that it can be really helpful in the future. So silent reading can really help you in life because it can help you become mentally strong and helps your mental aptitude.

Algae in Our Fish Tank

Our Plecostomus fish, Walter couldn't keep up with the constant growth of algae.  There was to much fish poo and light. That's exactly what the algae needs to grow. We learned that we were overfeeding our fish which caused them to poo a lot more than they should need to. Luckily, we have a garden in need of new fertilizer.

We were gonna look at the algae under the microscope, but our microscopes, were broken. The algae became black and hard when it was out of water. It was growing like normal plants would. We got rid of it, and if we didn't, it would have taken over the whole place. These pictures are what the algae looked like. Walter is working on it.

Inflatable Chairs

In our classroom we have inflatable chairs.  This chairs make the classroom library very comfortable. These chairs are not just any chair,  they are very comfortable.   A lot of students enjoy the bigger inflatable chairs that are shaped like a half egg. These are big enough for adults.  We also have 2 donut shaped chairs, that are round but don’t have holes in  the middle. The reason we have these chairs is because our teacher wants students to relax while working in these chairs. But we don’t want anyone messing  around with them like throwing them or popping them, because that would be unsafe and off task. If that happens we have to take the chairs away. Inflatable chairs could explode so don’t get anything sharp things   near it or else it would explode! We do not want this to happen, if it happens we do not get another one The inflatable chairs have air inside  just like a balloon.

A Fishy Ecosystem

We  recently got a fish tank! Our school got it from a family that was moving . We  placed the fish tank outside our classroom in the 5th grade area. There are so many fish! I think there are about 15 fish. The fish like all the rocks and surrounding objects that have been put in the tank for them to hide in. I really like the fish tank. A lot of kids come to look at the fish tank.

( Here are some of our teachers, Ms. Marr, Ms. Moreland, and Mrs. Humphrey working to clean the fish tank)

The  biggest fish is Walter which is a Plecostomus fish. There are also catfish and other types of fish. They are big and small. We also have to clean the fish tank. Do you know what we do with the fish dung? We put it in our garden as fertilizer! The fish tank lets us look at an underwater ecosystem and observe another habitat. The fish tank is really cool. Everyone seems to enjoy it.

The Myth of Plymouth Rock

Plymouth Rock, an old piece of American history. You might think ‘Hey what is all the fuss over a rock?’ ,but this poor old rock went through a lot in about fifty years. The people of Plymouth said the Pilgrims stepped on Plymouth Rock. Some townspeople wanted to move the large rock from it’s place on the beach  to the middle of the town square and others didn’t. The townspeople finally  decided on a verdict. They would try to move it to its new location in the middle of the town. When they were moving the old rock from under the wharf, the top half broke  off. The town decided to leave the bottom half there, and make a monument for the top half.

Months passed.  Soon the town thought the top half of Plymouth Rock needed a better monument. So they tried to move Plymouth Rock again.  This time they broke the top half in two. The townspeople cemented these two pieces back together and built a new place for it.  Time passed and soon the people of Plymouth thought that the bottom half needed a monument too. The people tore up the wharf and built a monument for the bottom half of Plymouth rock. Soon the town realised that the two pieces belonged with each other.  The people cemented the pieces back together. After a couple years,  the city of Plymouth built an even better monument for this great big piece of American history.

Rooftoppers- A Read Aloud

Our class has just finished an OBOB book. It was called Rooftoppers and it was written by: Katherine Rundell. The book was very interesting and had a lot of inspirational quotes. This book was about a girl named Sophie who was found in a cello case, floating around in the English Channel. A man named Charles found her and took her into his home. He raised her for the past 12 years. Then, Sophie on her 12th birthday knew her mother was alive and asked Charles to travel to France. Charles of course said yes. They traveled to France looking around for her mother. One day Sophie went on top of the roof of Hotel Boste and met an interesting boy named Matteo. Matteo told Sophie to stay off the rooftops. Eventually, the became friends. Soon, Sophie, Matteo, and his friends Safi, Gerade, and Anastasia. They all went on a journey trying to find Sophie’s mom and eventually, Charles started helping.

If I had to rate the book from 1-5 I would give it a 4 because in the end it was very disappointing. In the end Sophie found her mom and it ended that way. It didn’t explain what happened to Matteo, Charles, and Sophie and her mom after that. Also according to my other classmate the books average rating is 3. Other than the ending overall the book was amazing. I recommend you read the book.

Pilgrim Journal Entry

Dear Journal,
Today we hit land in the new world. It smelt of the freshest grass, and the evergreen trees. The water was the purest blue and the sky looked like a never ending waterfall with the clouds as the rapids. Later in the day, I was hit with a shock when we took a vote to make our government, because there was no government in the new world. I never thought that I would be elected to be somebody of importance. I always thought that I was just another pretty face that people knew, but never really thought could do something. I was proved wrong today when I was voted to be “The Cold Blooded Hudson's” leader. It proved myself worthy of believing that I could do things and not have a reason to be afraid. Fear was always one of the biggest blocks in my life. It stopped me from doing things that would have made me different from all of the other people. But that block was removed about 2 months ago when my family decided to hop on the Mayflower and sail away to the new world. This changed and rattled my way of looking at life. Now I am the head of the government, and four others were also appointed jobs to do. Two of them were the head of security, one other makes laws, and the last one revises the laws.
While we were out at sea, we lost 5 people. We had to throw some of the bodies overboard. Sadly, I know that the worst is yet to come. The thought hangs in my mind like the morning fog looming before me. I can swipe it away, but it still comes back later. It makes me feel like there is danger lurking around every corner, every step is one away from safeness and one closer to danger, and that every illness and death is a sin that never escapes our minds. I feel that I am never safe, and that the Indians are the greatest danger that we all fear above all else. I am still thankful to be on dry land, and not in that cramped boat out at sea in storms. It still makes me sad to leave England and all of the friendly and happy things that I knew there. I had a few friends, but only two came on the journey with me. We love to challenge ourselves.I have always felt like the third wheel with them, but thankfully I have had the journey to take my mind off of friends and sadness. The journey was rough, but the payoff was worth it. I would definitely do something like this again if the payoff was this big. All in all, the journey, the events, and the payoff… everything was worth it, from the deaths to the land and freedom to me being chosen to lead “The Cold Blooded Hudsons”.

~Sophia~

A Trip for Freedom

We left England for religious freedom, in a ship called the Mayflower. Who Are we? We are the Pilgrims. We took a voyage in ships and landed in the “New World”. Once we arrived we washed our clothes and started building houses. We haven’t lost a lot of people so far, but a few. We have made some houses in the time we have been here, but some people still live in the Mayflower. Our colony is very glad to finally be out of the sea from all the storms, being crowded, and being seasick. Our life is going to change.

Our class is doing a pilgrim simulation. In the simulation we learned about why the pilgrims left England. We have sailed to the “New World” and learned about a lot of hardships on the trip. We have arrived at the “New World” and learned about the land we are on. We have even made are houses in the “New World”. Each group has their own ship name, ours is the JuneRose. Our class learned about a lot of facts, including that there was a baby born on the trip, and that the trip was really crowded, there were many bad storms, and everybody was seasick. I’m glad I wasn’t on the Mayflower.

Coding Time

Have you ever coded before?  If you have coded before, think back to the time when you were coding.  Do you think coding is fun? I think it is  more than fun, it is AMAZING!  You get to tell the computer anything you want it to do.
In my 5th grade classroom we are offered time to code.  We get about 30 minutes to code.  We do not do coding every day, but we do it often .  I normally do a game called Flappy Bird.  On the level that I am doing, I get to create my own directions and commands.  I can make all sorts of things change, like the character, the background, the speed that the character is flying and many more changes.
Recently, little kids from 2nd grade came in and we got to buddy up with them.  I was paired up with a nice, smart student.  My class got to teach the 2nd grade class how to code and what coding is like.  My partner did course #1, and did really well.  Some levels were a little hard for my buddy and some were easy.  All my buddy had to do was drag different blocks that tell the computer what to do to complete the level.  After some help, my buddy rocked through the rest!
I really think that coding is a wonderful opportunity and skill to have.  Coding is also probably good for the brain as well.  It is nice to know that you can tell the computer all different things to do!  Get your kids to code at home instead of playing mindless video games.  Just remember, coding rocks, get up and code, code, code!

Tynker: for the Advanced Coder

Some may say code.org is the best coding site there is. WRONG! Tynker.com has much more advanced and fun games, such as Debugger. When you are playing Debugger you fight a large number of bugs by hacking into many machines. As you hack, you unlock new skills
such as ground pound, double jump, blast, and way more. You can also customize your character, there are many possibilities.

Time for another game! So you liked Debugger? If you do, you should like Cannon Crasher,
where you fire a cannon at targets using code! This gets extremely hard after a little bit, only experts should even try it. Now for the best part… YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN… wait for it … wait for it… GAME! Using java you can code your own game! This is hard for people new to code, it is only for “code masters”, this means you have completed hour of code and understand code very much. I have started coding my own game but have not gotten close to finishing.
Are you still there? GO and have some fun! just type in tynker.com into your computer and bravo there it is.

We are Superheroes

Our class has a superhero theme! If you have been in our room you probably noticed this, but are you wondering why?  There are lots of reasons I think my teacher picked this theme.
I think superheroes don’t give up and I admire that. Also, I like the idea
that they are the people that everybody looks up to. Why though? Why not look up to a cashier? Because they make a difference. The thing is that  making a difference is  something you don’t have to be superhero to do. Mr. Hershey was an  ordinary guy who made the first milk chocolate bar! Ferdinand Magellan was the kind of guy that no one liked and yet his crew was the first to sail around the world! Marie Curie had a normal childhood as a normal girl in poland and she ended up  discovering two elements on the periodic table and won the nobel prize! These ordinary  people made a difference, you can make one too!

Classroom Library

Some teachers don’t have a classroom library! How will kids become expert readers? You need to do something for 10,000 hours in order to be an expert on that subject. Our classroom library provides books for readers at any level.  Having a classroom library benefits students by surrounding kids with books and improving literacy. There is also a wide variety of genres. Anywhere from fiction to autobiographies. Our classroom library also has many different complete series. Some examples are Percy Jackson, Margaret Peterson Haddix, and Nancy Drew.

Also, there are four rice paper lamps, two end tables and a area rug to make the space feel homey. There is also a bubble chair and foot stool. It is very comfortable to read and work in. Many students like to read in the library during DEAR. (Drop everything and read). Many students need to be comfortable to focus on reading. Or they like to feel at home. Our library provides comfort  and great selection of books. Try to think about the world if nobody could read. That could be your  classroom without a library.

Fall Crops

At our school one of the unique things we have are gardens! We planted cabbages and onions to eat later in the year. The plants are looking so good that when we eat them they might give us a lot of energy! We go to look at them every day. So we know they are fresh and no bugs got to them. In our class we have some plant jobs. One person takes photos for the teacher, and the other waters the plants.
My teacher really cares about the plants. The other teacher helps us get the water, she is next to the garden.I  can’t wait till we get to eat the vegetables! I bet everyone in my class will  like them. Our garden is certainly something to check out the garden! The cool thing is that all of the students learn how to be responsible, and caring to plants, people and other things, in this process.

So Many Dots- Art Literacy

Georges Seurat was a famous artist. He only painted with dots. when your up close all you see is dots, but when you go back you see an elaborate design. We painted a design that we created with a pencil eraser. We grabbed a stencil and started painting.
We made a design about 6in by 8in. Seurat usually used a board the size of a large wall. It took two years to make his most famous pieces. Such as A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. He started a new way of art so there could be a variety. This particular art literacy was fun because it was something I had never tried before.

Why Classroom Jobs?

Have you ever had a classroom job?  If you have had one, then you know how it works, if you have not had one, than I will tell you all about it.  Some classroom jobs can be fun, some are worth doing but aren’t as interesting.  Anyway, in my 5th grade classroom, we have a ton of classroom jobs. We have so many that we don’t have enough students to fill them.
The jobs that I have are pretty cool so far!  So far I have been a pencil pilot (sharpens pencils), mail carrier (passes out mail in mailboxes), census  bureau (does attendance), and technology supervisor (checks to see if technology is safe).  Luckily, those jobs have been interesting.  Out of these jobs, I think the mail carrier is the best.  I think it is very cool and interesting to do, because you get to be responsible for passing out people’s work.  Without the mail carrier, people wouldn’t get their grades back. A good benefit is that it really helps the teacher out.
You might have had some jobs that are not the best, not me (at least not yet).  It is really fun to help out my teacher.  . . Stop what you’re doing right now, and make sure your child is doing their classroom job.  Ask if they like theirs.   School goes much smoother with classroom jobs!  Classroom jobs are really cool to have!

Free Seating for All!

This year our teacher  is trying something new. Free seating! We can sit wherever we want as long as the spot we choose is not distracting. There are many places we can sit like the classroom library, at the short round table, and on the floor. The reason why my teacher is doing this is because she knows that if you are comfortable while learning, you will learn better. When kids can sit where they want the will start to participate more because they are not forced to sit where they don’t want to sit. With free seating the kids who always sit in the back row are starting to move up front to participate in class discussion.

There are many different free seating choices, like standing at a higher table or sitting on the floor at a lower table. Free seating is fun but we have to make good choices if we want this fun to last all year.  Some of the tables are painted with whiteboard paint and one of the chairs are inflatable. Free seating is a great fun way to learn I hope it lasts all year.

We Have Technology!

Last year, we got a special grant that allowed us to get technology! The technology we have, is only for 4th and 5th graders. We got this grant from my teacher and another staff member that works here. They worked together to write the grant. Included technology was: ipads, and Chromebooks. We used the iPads last year for an app for Classroom Dojo. This year we used the iPads for creating public service announcement. When I was in fourth grade we got our Chromebooks and iPads… For the first time!!!!

We also got a 3-D printer last year. We got the 3-D printer from a 5th grade student, (last year) who did some research on the benefits of a 3-D printer in schools and asked the Parent Club to buy one.     We are  going to use the 3-D printers for 3-D arms we were working on. (We haven’t printed them yet.) It’s fun having technology at our school.

Hokki Stools for Better Learning

It all began when our teacher announced to the class that we were getting new chairs. The problem was not everybody would get one, but everybody was happy anyway. The reason why is because it wasn’t those plastic hard chairs that hurt a lot. We all waited weeks for the chairs to arrive. Then one day in the cafeteria our teacher was walking toward me and my friends and showed us a Hokki Stool.
After lunch the teacher showed the whole class the Hokki Stools and a lot of people wanted to sit on one including me. To make it fair she pulled popsicle sticks and I wasn’t one of the names called. Once in awhile my teacher would call out names to sit on the Hokki Stools. Then the next day all the students in my class sat on a Hokki Stool and people kept it at their desk.

The Hokki Stool helps me comfortably wiggle while I work. I like to play with things at my desk, my body doesn't always stay very still and with the Hokki Stool I can just wobble around and it helps me be a better learner because I can focus more with it. As I am writing this I am sitting on one of the Hokki Stools right now.

Multiple Solutions to the Same Challenge

So far this year we did a lot of awesome things! My favorite thing we did this year was working on making cardboard prosthetic arms in class. We took the cardboard our teacher gave us and cardboard we got from home and we designed a prosthetic arm that could move ninety degrees, and the string that moves the arm has to be attached to the arm like a muscle would be. Designing the arm was hard because you had to make your arm strong enough to hold weight. Then we had a contest against a another 5th grade class next door. The contest was to see whose arm could lift the most weight.

The weights were very small because they had to be able to fit in in the prosthetic arm. Are arm had a little pocket that we put the weights in, but other groups used a basket that helped hold the weights. The weights were all measured in grams. The basket that helped hold the weights were 70 grams. In this project I learned how to work in a group, that you will need strong materials to build a strong arm that could lift a lot of weight, and finally I learned many ways to build a prosthetic arm. For example usually the bigger arms that had thicker cardboard usually lifted more weight than the arms with flimsy cardboard. If I am an engineer when I grow up then I will use this information to make better prosthetic arms for the people who need them.

Bringing Many Skills Together to Experience the Design Process

Do you think 3D printing sounds cool? Well we are doing that in our class now! Recently, we have designed prosthetic arms out of cardboard. We had a competition to see who’s arm held the most grams. The best arm held  475 grams! Now, we are using a website called TinkerCad to design a new prosthetic and then 3D print it! Isn’t that cool?

We are doing this so students know how to code and go through the design process and create new designs. You also have to focus and concentrate on what you have to do. You can’t just give up. You have to be determined. It is also really fun. You get new blocks and add them to your arm and make changes to it. After you are done 3D printing you get to try it out and see if it works. We are trying to make our printed arms fit on barbie dolls! If it doesn’t you will learn what to do next time to make your arm better.
TinkerCad is a great website for designing new things. It it also fun to 3D print your designs! You have to be determined to make your design turn out right. It is a educational website for kids who like to make new designs and 3D print them.

3D Arm Designing

For centuries people around the world have been creating prosthetic arms. Have you ever thought of a student creating a prosthetic arm in class? A 3D arm is typically called a prosthetic arm. In our class we were divided into groups and asked to  work together to design and create a prosthetic arm prototype and then use a computer to draw a version that can be 3D printed. The arms that each group creates will be tested on a Barbie doll. Each group must create an arm that fits and works on the doll.

Every single arm must be able to move up and down. This expectation makes it a challenge for all us students. Everyone in our class has given up a couple of times, but it’s a part of engineering. It’s called trial and error. This taught us to never give up even if your design doesn’t work. In order to be successful we have to keep on going no matter what.
-Ester

"I Can't..."

In our class we have a gravestone. On that grave stone, there are words. In the center of those words it says “I CAN’T”.  All around those words are other words. These other words say and express what we all believe we can’t do. Each person’s “can’t” is different and unknown. We couldn’t watch each other write what they said. I think that by the end of the year, most people will have gotten over their “can’t”. I think that it was a great idea and an easy way for us to express ourselves through anonymous writing that we can all read. This gravestone is on a poster. This poster is always constantly reminding us of what we think we can’t do. Some people are afraid. Others lack confidence. Some just don’t think that they are smart enough, or they just don’t persevere through it. The poster is meant to make us make our “can’t” a can.
The purpose is to make us believe that our “can’ts” are now gone. That they have died away just like an ice cube melting on concrete on a hot summer day. Slowly, but steadily. These challenges will slowly, but surely fade, until the road of learning is as smooth as silk. Sooner or later we will all have gotten over our challenges. They may be holding us back now, but sooner or later, we will all be set free.

Technology and Character Education

In our class we had to do a P.S.A assignment (public service announcement).  The purpose of a  P.S.A is  to educate viewers about a cause or a topic. We recorded ours on an  iPad using iMovie. Our job was to educate people about the P.Y.P (primary years program) Learner Profile attributes. Examples of the P.Y.P attributes are caring, responsible, balanced, respectable, knowledgeable, and risk taker. The assignment was could be about any of the PYP attributes. The video had to be one to two minutes, but no more than two minutes.

After recording the P.S.A video we had to send it to our teacher and then she would share it to our class YouTube channel for viewing. Then the whole class would get to watch our video and learn about it. This process taught me how to edit film in iMovie, which I had never done before. The whole point of doing this P.S.A assignment is to learn about different P.Y.P attributes and get to understand them. The whole thing is very interesting and can be useful. If everyone adopted these attributes the world would be a kinder place to live.

Coding in the Classroom

I strongly believe that coding should be learnt by EACH and EVERY student in America! In our classroom, that means that coding on Chromebooks is one of our many activities! For more information on what a Chromebook is and how we use them in the classroom, scroll down on the list of posts to Jake B.’s technology post. Coding is one of the greatest skills that a student can learn in the classroom. Our modern-day world is so intertwined (Yes, I know what that means) with technology that the next generation needs to know how to work with it and create it. Learning how to code also opens a wide array of job options through major and minor companies such as Microsoft, Apple, and Sony.

Coders also make the new technology that can change the world, make it better, and let the human race grow and explore new frontiers. Even such a small step as working on a website such as Code.org can infleunce young children (and young adults, too!) to pursue a career in the technology field and help make the world a better place. On behalf of our classroom we hope that you visit again and spread the word about our blog  http://thepackclassroom.blogspot.com/!

Classroom Jobs

Did you get classroom jobs when you were a kid? We have classroom jobs and they are pretty fun. This gives you responsibility, and it sounds fun to have fake money in the classroom. Right now I am a homework checker. I check if people did their homework or not (obviously). There is 30 jobs in the classroom and some of them pay a lot, some not so much. Our highest paying jobs are president, bailiff, and vice president. They get $150 a week. Our lowest paying job gets $60, and the job is called extra hand. Most of the jobs are done in the afternoon, but homework checker and a few others are in the morning.

The money part of the jobs is really cool. It gives you a reason to do your job. You get fined if you don’t do your job or if you get in trouble. Most jobs get paid around $80 - $90. We are able to use the money to buy/auction stuff in class at certain points of the month. So far we aren’t getting paid, we are just getting used to what to do with the jobs, and remembering to do them. There is a lot of jobs. There is desk monitor, mail carrier, paper passers, floor monitor, pencil pilot, and so much more! It helps out the teacher a lot. Without the classroom jobs, our classroom would not run so smoothly and would be boring.
